Johnson Rewrites Record Books

DES MOINES, IA - The University of Iowa men's and women's track teams finished competition at the Drake Relays today. Senior Tiffany Johnson won the 100-meter hurdles, becoming the first student-athlete in school history to claim a title in the same event in back-to-back seasons at the Drake Relays. She broke her previous school record of 13.24 with her winning time of 13.20.The 400-meter relay team of Johnson, Peaches Roach, Megan Clarke and Rhonda-Kaye Trusty placed fourth with a regional qualifying time of 45.21. The 1,600-meter relay team of Kineke Alexander, Kara-Arthea Graham, Adtiya Jones and Monica Mims, finished sixth with a season-best time of 3:43.53. Roach took sixth in the special invitation high jump, improving her regional qualifying mark with a season-best jump of 6-0 ¾. Freshman Ray Varner took seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 51.46. Hammer thrower Adam Hamilton took second place with a collegiate-best 222-2. Sophomore John Hickey placed sixth in the special invitational shot put with a throw of 58-1 ¾. The 400-meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 41.16. The team was composed of Max Milder, Paul Chaney, Jr., Aaron Reed and Lee Elbert. The Hawkeyes next scheduled competition is on May 11-13 at the Big Ten Championships held at University Park, PA.
