2014 Iowa Volleyball Season in Review

Records fall, Hawkeyes win 6 in B1G action, Shymansky logs 300th win

Hawk Item... Ranks 11th on Iowa's all-time career kills list (1,169)... ranks 16th on Iowa's all-time career blocks list (225)... ranks 20th on Iowa's all-time service aces list (79)... one of only nine Hawkeyes in program history to rank among the top 20 career leaders in kills, blocks and service aces.

2009 as a senior... Academic all-Big Ten... started all 32 matches...played in 111 of 112 sets... named to the all-tournament at the West Point Classic... led the team with 326 kills and 2.94 kills per set... recorded her 1,000 career kill at Wisconsin (Sept. 23)... led team with 33 service aces... served a career-high seven aces vs. South Dakota State (Sept. 4)... recorded 11 double-doubles, including a season-high 19 kills and 10 assists in Iowa's five-set win vs. Wisconsin (Nov. 11) on the Big Ten Network... recorded a career-high four solo blocks vs. Marquette (Aug. 29)... finished second on the team with 309 digs... recorded a season-high 18 digs on four occasions; vs. Marquette (Aug. 29), vs. South Dakota State (Sept. 4), vs. Central Michigan (Sept. 5), at Michigan (Oct. 31).

2008 as a Junior... Academic all-Big Ten... started all 32 matches...played in 115 of 116 sets... second on the team with 345 kills and 3.0 kills per set... second on the team with 24 service aces...ranked third on the team with 219 digs and 64 total blocks... tallied eight double-doubles... collected career-high 20 kills against Tennessee (Sept. 5)... 14 kills with a career-high .545 attack percentage against Tulsa (Sept. 20)...named to Hampton Inn/Bama Bash and Hawkeye-Holiday Inn Challenge all-tournament teams.

2007 as a Sophomore... Academic all-Big Ten... played in 29 matches with 17 starts... appeared in 100 games... missed the opening two matches of the Big Ten season with a knee injury... named to Hawkeye Challenge, Northern Colorado Tournament and Hawkeye-Holiday Inn Challenge all-tournament teams... led team with 309 kills (3.09 per game)... career-high 19 kills at Drake (Sept. 7)... career-high .429 hitting percentage against College of Charleston (Sept. 15)... career-high 14 digs against Marquette (Aug. 26)... career-high six block assists at Ohio State (Oct. 6)... recorded double digit kills 19 times... hit .300 or better in six times... double digit blocks five times.

2006 as a Freshman... Saw action in 31 matches, including 10 starts, and 88 games... named Most Improved and received the Coach's Award... averaged 2.15 kills per game and 2.45 kills per game in conference play... her first career attempt was a game-winning kill in the season opener against Drake (Aug. 25)... had a season-high 16 kills on 51 attempts vs. Eastern Michigan (Sept. 16)... recorded 13 kills and a .423 attack percentage against Indiana (Oct. 6)... posted 14 kills against Purdue (Oct. 7)... had seven kills and a season-high 13 digs against Wisconsin (Oct. 21)... recorded seven kills and 12 digs against Minnesota (Oct. 20)... registered 12 kills, three digs and four blocks against Northwestern (Nov. 4).

High School... Iowa Class 2A Player of the Year as a senior... two-time Elite and first team all-state selection... led her Aplington-Parkersburg team to the 2005 Class 2A State Championship... captain of the all-tournament team... three time first team all-district and all-conference... conference MVP as a junior and co-MVP as a senior... Prep Volleyball All-American nominee as a senior... two-time academic all-conference... set records for most digs in a season (410), kills in a season (420) and highest kill efficiency as a junior... led Aplington-Parkersburg HS to Class 2A runner-up finish as a junior and was named to the all-tournament team after leading the Class 2A tournament in kills and kill efficiency... 2005 Class 1A Doubles Champions in tennis... runner up in 2006 as a senior... three-time conference singles champion... four-time conference doubles champions... four-year honor roll member.
