Bloomington, IN - The University of Iowa volleyball team was swept at Indiana Saturday, 31-29, 30-28, 30-22. Iowa falls to 9-18 overall and 1-15 in Big Ten play.

Sophomore Megan Schipper tallied 11 kills to lead the Hawkeyes, while junior Laura Kremer and senior Stacy Vitali each added five. Freshman Katie Kennedy chipped in five block assists.

Iowa dropped a close game one, 31-29. The game stayed within three points for the duration, with 20 ties and six lead changes.

The Hawkeyes jumped out to an early 9-7 lead, but the Hoosiers forced ties at nine, 10 and 11 before going on a 3-0 run to take a 14-11 lead. Iowa then used its own 3-0 lead to tie the game at 14. The teams traded points until Indiana recorded a kill to get its first game point at 29-28. A Schipper kill tied the game at 29, but two Hoosiers points sealed the win in game one.

The Hoosiers scored a 30-28, comeback win in game two for a 2-0 lead in the match. Indiana took an early 8-5 lead, but three-straight Hoosier errors tied the game at eight. Iowa then used an 8-1 run later in the game to take an 18-13 lead and stretched the advantage to 25-21. The Hoosiers responded with a 6-0 run to regain the lead, 27-25, before blocks by Vitali and Kremer knotted the score at 28. Indiana once again managed two points in the final two rallies for the win.

Iowa took a slim 5-4 lead in game three, but a 7-1 Hoosier run gave Indiana the lead for good at 11-6. The Hoosiers used a 9-3 surge later in the game to take a 22-14 lead and closed the game with a 5-1 run for the 30-22 victory.

The Hawkeyes will play their final two home matches of the season next weekend. Iowa will host Northwestern Friday before facing Michigan State in its final home match Saturday. Both matches will start at 7 p.m.
