Iowa Football Ticket Priority Point System
In an effort to meet the challenges in the years ahead and remain competitive within the Big Ten Conference and nationally, the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in 2006 instituted a change in the method by which season ticket holders to home games of the UI football program are assigned their seat locations - the Iowa Football Ticket Priority Point System.
In keeping with the spirit of Hawkeye loyalty and in recognition of the generosity of those who are helping the Hawkeyes each year, the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics developed a priority point system that is fair, orderly and includes Hawkeye fans in the process of selecting their football season ticket locations.
Beginning with the 2006 college football season, designated sections of historic Kinnick Stadium required a minimum annual per-seat contribution. These per-seat contributions counted toward a fan's annual I-Club recognition. The map below details the minimum annual contribution for these designated sections in Kinnick Stadium. Ticket availability per section is based on priority.
An overview of the priority point system and a pair of samples of how the system is applied against two fans of the Hawkeyes are printed here for review. Also, at the very bottom of this page is a chart that indicates a variety of potential "priority point totals" and where each total would rank among the total list of season ticket customers available at the time that chart was created (March 2009).

IOWA FOOTBALL PRIORITY POINT SYSTEM
Effective for the 2009 college football
season at the University of Iowa
Some Things to Know
Gifts made to the National I-Club are one of the components included in the priority point system. Friends and fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes will not be required to make separate contributions to the National I-Club and to the priority points program to secure their desired seat location inside Kinnick Stadium.
Some contributors to the National I-Club will not be required to increase their annual contribution to secure their desired seat location inside Kinnick Stadium. For example, a fan of the Hawkeyes who is a contributor at the Silver Hawk level ($1,000 annual contribution) and purchases four general public season tickets in a Zone III ($200 per seat) section will not need to increase his or her annual contribution to be eligible to select seat locations in their desired section inside Kinnick Stadium. However, they may elect to increase their annual contribution which will increase their priority which will improve the likelihood of accessing their desired or better seat locations.
Revenue generated through the priority points program will be used to pay expenses associated with the annual operations of the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. These expenses include scholarships, medical expenses, travel expenses, team uniforms, etc. These expenses continue to increase.
No revenue generated through the priority point system will be used to fund the renovation of historic Kinnick Stadium. The renovation is being funded exclusively through the purchase of premium seating options in the new press box (indoor club seats, outdoor club seats and private suites) and through gifts from friends and fans of the University of Iowa and its intercollegiate athletics program. One such gift was the lead gift of $5 million by William and Nancy Krause of West Des Moines.
33 percent of the seat locations inside Kinnick Stadium available for purchase by the general public for the 2007 college football season will require no participation in the National I-Club. Thousands of additional seat locations inside Kinnick Stadium will require a gift to the National of I-Club of as little as $50.
The recognition levels for the National I-Club provide fans of the Hawkeyes the lowest entry point that carries official recognition (I-Club level, $50 annually) for an official booster club in the Big Ten Conference. Also, membership in the I-Club highest level of recognition (Kinnick Society, $7,5000 annually) is the lowest threshold for the highest level of recognition in the Big Ten Conference.
A Few Questions and Answers
What is the Kinnick Stadium priority seating program?
Priority seating programs are common in intercollegiate athletics. The UI program will help generate important annual support, while ensuring a fair process for determining season ticket selection. The priority point system quantifies every I-Club member's and football season ticket holder's relationship with UI athletics by considering a number of different criteria including giving to athletics, years of football season ticket purchases and alumni status. Beginning with the 2006 football season, ticket holders may be required to make a minimum annual contribution.
How do my contributions to UI athletics factor into seat locations and other considerations?
In any year in which you contribute to the I-Club, your priority points help to determine your priority for choosing Kinnick Stadium season ticket locations, bowl game tickets, and other athletics considerations. Cumulative giving is one factor in establishing priority points.
Does contributing the minimum per-seat amount for a particular section guarantee seats in that section?
Every effort will be made to accommodate you within the area corresponding to your annual contribution. However, if demand exceeds supply, you will need to select seats in a different zone.
How does the new priority seating plan affect faculty/staff season ticket holders?
Faculty/staff ticket holders interested in seats in a section of Kinnick Stadium that requires a per-seat contribution to the National I-Club will be required to make that contribution. However, that contribution is half that required from a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes who is not a member of the UI faculty or staff.
How can a group select their tickets together in the same zone?
All current season ticket holders will receive a seat selection date based on their customer priority. Individuals wanting to sit together as a group will be able to select tickets together based on the lowest customer priority of the individual in the group.
When will Kinnick Stadium seating be completely reallocated again?
The ui Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will review the overall reallocation process every five years.
Does the priority point system affect my seating location in Carver-Hawkeye Arena?
Carver-Hawkeye Arena is not currently scheduled to be reseated, but new season ticket allocation and seating upgrades in Carver-Hawkeye Arena will be based on a similar priority points system. Currently only Kinnick Stadium will have minimum per-seat contributions for specific sections.
If I increase my annual gift amount, will my football season-ticket location be upgraded?
Seating improvements will be based on the priority points system. If tickets are available in the requested section, the Athletic Ticket Office will make every effort to comply with the request.
