IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa Student-Athlete Academic Services has recognized junior Lefteris Theodorou (Men’s Tennis) and freshman Charlotte Sullivan (Women’s Gymnastics) as January’s male and female student-athletes of the month.

This honor, voted by their peers, recognizes student-athletes who have excelled not only in their sport, but in the classroom as well.

36466 Theodorou, a sport and recreation management major, helped Iowa get to a 3-1 start in the spring season, including a 4-3 victory over Texas Tech at the ITA Kickoff on Jan. 28. In singles, the Athens, Greece, native defeated two players who qualified for the NCAA Tournament a year ago, while he and his doubles partner, Josh Silverstein, knocked off the 60th-ranked doubles team in the country from Texas Tech, 6-4.

Sullivan is currently an open major. The Christchurch, New Zealand, native has earned five event titles through the team’s first five meets and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for her runner-up finish in the Northern Illinois Quad Meet on Jan. 8. Sullivan also tied the third best score in Iowa history on uneven bars with a score of 9.925 to win the event against Maryland on Jan. 29.
