WALNUT, Calif. – University of Iowa decathlete Austin West stands in third place with 4,392 points (-229) after five events at the Mt. SAC Relays.
West was a top-three finisher in three events on Wednesday competing in the elite division. The Iowa City, Iowa, native won the 400 meters to finish the day, racing 46.82.
West also placed third in the high jump and long jump. The Hawkeye senior posted a lifetime record in the high jump, reaching 1.98 meters (6’ 6”) to beat his previous best by three hundredths of a meter (1.25”).
UP NEXT
The men’s elite decathlon wraps up on Thursday, finishing with the 110 hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500 meters. Competition gets underway at noon (CT).
